Homeopathy in Childbirth

Homeopathic remedies can provide excellent pain relief during labour. They can be used before, during and/or after birth to address all sorts of physical and emotional complaints. Today learn about this one remedy and what it can be used for:

Pulsatilla Nigricans

Useful for: Pain relief especially during transition. Symptoms are crying, helpless feelings, needing to be held, touched, comforted, crying out "I can't do this, please help me" (which often happens when pain is at its most intense).
This remedy can progress a slow labour, or start dilation if progress has ceased altogether and a section is being discussed.
Pulsatilla is excellent for the baby-blues, for feeling weepy, emotional and overwhelmed by the prospect of another human being being dependent upon one. It can be used to help with breast feeding issues. For women who can't breastfeed for whatever reason, it can help reduce milk supply and make a woman more comfortable. Pulsatilla helps with feelings of abandonment for either mother or baby. Often childbirth may have triggered intense feelings from their own infant-hood and childhood to resurface and they do not know where to turn to for help or are barely able to recognise they feel that way. (This is a different circumstance from post-natal depression which needs diagnosis and intervention)  Pulsatilla is also wonderful for babies who have been separated from their mums immediately after birth due to necessary medical intervention. My nick name for Pulsatilla is 'the wonder flower' !
